Funneltyics Configure

  1. Log into app.funnelytics.io, and select the {CLIENT} project.
  2. Click on the Settings icon, and copy the analytics script.

Install the Funnelytics Base Script in GTM

  1. Log into Google Tag Manager, and open the {CLIENT} container. Select the Default Workspace.
  2. Click on Tags in the left-hand navigation menu. Click the blue New button.
  3. Enter a name for the tag--consider using "FL - Base Script"
  4. For Tag Type, select Custom HTML
  5. Paste the analytics script that you copied from Funnelytics into the HTML text box
  6. Click the Triggering box, and select the trigger "All Pages"
  7. Click the blue Save button

Create funnels in Funnelytics for each campaign you would like to visualize

  1. With the {CLIENT} project selected in Funnelytics, click + Create New Funnel. Give the Funnel a descriptive name, and click the blue Create Funnel button.
  2. Click on the "TRAFFIC" menu in the left-hand navigation pane
  3. Select a traffic source icon that is appropriate for the campaign that you are visualizing, and drag the traffic icon onto the canvas.
  4. With the traffic icon selected, click on the gear icon to expand the settings menu
  5. Click on the Tracking tab, and enter a descriptive title into the text box under Label
  6. Open the {SOP CLIENT} UTMs doc, and locate the campaign that you are visualizing in Funnelytics
  7. Enter the UTM Source, UTM Medium, and UTM Campaign that you located in the {SOP CLIENT} UTMs doc into the traffic source settings in Funnelytics. If necessary, add values for the UTM Content and UTM term text boxes as well.
  8. Click on the "PAGES" menu in the left-hand navigation pane
  9. Click on the page icon that best matches the landing page for your campaign, and drag the page icon onto the canvas.
  10. With the page icon selected, click on the gear icon to bring up the landing page settings menu.
  11. Give the landing page a descriptive name. Insert the landing page URL below the title "URL", and click the camera icon to the right of the URL text box.
  12. Click on the Canvas to exit the landing page settings menu
  13. Click the traffic source icon, and a blue half-circle icon will appear on the right-hand side. Click on this blue half-circle, and drag the connector arrow towards the landing page icon to connect the two elements.
  14. Select the landing page icon, and click on the plus sign that appears on the right-hand side.
  15. Click on the appropriate icon that matches the conversion action that you expect users to take on the landing page.
  16. With the event icon selected, click on the gear icon to bring up the event settings menu.
  17. Click on the Tracking tab. Give the event a descriptive name in both the Label and Event Name text boxes.
  18. With the checkbox next to Properties selected, click + Add Property.
  19. Insert both a key and value that matches the event. (ex: Key: form / Value: wf-form-contact-us)
  20. Click the checkbox next to "ADD AS KPI".  Enter a descriptive name (ex: Contact Form Submission), and select the appropriate KPI type. For transactions, add a transaction value and select "Sale" for Type.
  21. Copy the script provided

Create a Tag and Trigger for the conversion action in GTM

  1. Click on the conversion event tag you created in the Google Tag Manager process that matches the conversion action you just mapped out in Funnelytics
  2. Click on the 3 vertical dots in the upper right-hand of the screen, and select Copy from the menu that appears.
  3. Give the tag a descriptive name (ex: Copy of GA - Event - Contact Form Submission >>> FL - Action - Contact Form Submission)
  4. Click on the icon below Tag Type, and select Custom HTML.
  5. Paste the script that you copied from Funnelytics into the text editor.
  6. Delete code in line 2 and line 8
  7. Click the blue Save button

If necessary, link a confirmation page to the conversion action on the Funnelytics canvas

  1. Select conversion action on the canvas, then click on "PAGES" in the left-hand navigation menu. Select the appropriate page icon, and drag it onto the canvas.
  2. With the confirmation page icon selected, click on the gear icon to bring up the page settings.
  3. Give the page a descriptive name (ex: Thank You - Contact Form Submission)
  4. Insert the URL for the confirmation page, and click back onto the canvas. (You should now see a connected chain from traffic source to landing page to conversion action to confirmation page)
  5. Click the blue Save button

After building out all necessary funnels in Funnelytics, return to Google Tag Manager.

  1. Click the blue Submit button in the upper right-hand corner
  2. Add a descriptive Version Name, and write a detailed Version Description documenting the tags created for Funnelytics tracking.
  3. Click the blue Publish button
